The Book a Sub platform showcases hundreds of different substitute teaching jobs every week, so check back frequently to see what’s available. Currently, most jobs fall into the following categories:

  3. Schedule an interview
  4. Fill out onboarding documents, verify your identity, undergo a background check and receive training.
  5. Once approved, explore available work in your area and begin subbing.
  1. Login into the Book a Sub platform and click on Open Jobs.
  2. Sign up to receive text notifications and receive alerts when jobs are posted.

Direct deposit: When setting up your account, you’ll be prompted to provide your bank name, routing number, and account number. Assuming no dispute to your hours or other issues, your payments will be deposited directly into your bank account within 2 business days of you’re the week’s completion. Depending on your bank’s processing times, you may have to wait another 24 to 36 hours to access your money.

You may have been deactivated because you didn’t follow Book a Sub’s attendance policy or other sections of the User Guidelines.

Under the attendance policy, workers who accrue 6 marks within a rolling 30-day period will lose access to the Book a Sub platform for 7 days. Substitutes who accrue 10 marks within a rolling 30-day period will permanently lose access to the Book a Sub platform. Please note that 2 no-call, no-shows (not showing up for a job at all and not informing Book a Sub Operations Coordinator) within a rolling 12-month period will also result in permanent loss of access to the Book a Sub platform.

Attendance marks are given as follows:

  • 2 marks for every 15 minutes late, up to 5 marks
  • 2 marks for canceling 2 to 24 hours before a job starts
  • 3 marks for canceling 30 minutes to 2 hours before a job starts
  • 4 marks for being sent home early due to behavior or uniform issues
  • 6 marks for canceling less than 30 minutes before a job start or for a no-call, no-show

When you accumulate the amount of points or actions that result in a deactivation, we’ll send you an email with a record of your attendance marks and the status of your account.

You may also be deactivated for violating the law; consuming drugs or alcohol or carrying firearms during your shift or while on the app; violating the Book a Sub standards on physical contact, sexual assault and misconduct, threatening and rude behavior, discrimination, and reliability; fraud; or account sharing.

Potential substitutes are vetted before they can work on our platform. They must undergo a background check and complete an I-9 form as well as complete other onboarding employment forms. In specialized roles, they are asked to submit relevant certification.

Schools may cancel a filled job 24 hours in advance without penalty. If you cancel within 24 hours, cancellation fees will apply and you’ll be invoiced for a full day’s payrate.
